Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) Panel by FISH

I. Ordering Recommendation: Use in conjunction with conventional cytogenetics for diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring of MDS.

II. Specimen Required:

   A. Collect: Non-diluted bone marrow aspirate. Collect in a heparinized syringe.

   B. Specimen Preparation: Do not freeze or expose to extreme temperatures. Transfer 3 mL bone marrow to a green (sodium heparin). (Min: 0.5 mL)

   C. Storage/Transport Temperature: Room temperature.

   D. Unacceptable Conditions: Frozen specimens. Clotted specimens.

   E. Remarks:

   F. Stability: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 48 hours; Frozen: Unacceptable
